prepare for a boudoir session

How to...

First of all, congrats on taking the leap and booking your boudoir photography session! It's going to be fun, an amazing experience, and super empowering for you. Wardrobe is an essential part of your boudoir session, using proper wardrobe that is not only beautiful but that flatters your body is just one of the many ways we ensure your session is a success. It doesn't have to be complicated. I am a believer in stripping down and keeping it basic. Less is more. In fact, we really love doing our 'implied nudes' in the sheets and highly recommend you give it a try!

Most of our clients also use our fantastic client wardrobe, and some opt to shop and bring their own hand selected pieces. Here is my cheat sheet for you to shop and know what to bring for your session. Hope it helps you! Feel free to reach out with questions any time so I can help you through this part of the process.

Arrive to the studio for your session in loose clothing, no socks.

Wardrobe Selection

Bring along a minimum of 2 of your favorite outfits, and let us assist in choosing the ones that will shine brightest in your photographs.

Bring a nude and a black seamless thong or G-string in the chance you want to wear something from our studio wardrobe. A solid or embroidered black bra is also a great staple.

Accessories
When it comes to accessories, simplicity often works wonders. Think about incorporating minimalist jewelry, knee-high socks, oversized sweaters, a button-down shirt, a veil, a robe, and any other accessories that tickle your fancy. Don't forget heels!

Moisturize
Prior to your session, it's always a good idea to moisturize. Don't forget to pack your preferred lotion to ensure you feel utterly comfortable in your own skin.

Hydration and Light Snacks
If you're anything like me, those hunger pangs can hit you hard. A day of pampering with hair and makeup, accompanied by some refreshing mimosas, might leave you feeling a tad peckish. It's a smart idea to have some granola bars or fresh fruit on hand to keep those hunger pangs at bay! If you are concerned about bloating bone broth is a great choice day of.

Boudoir Bag Checklist:

Do NOT Bring:

  • Props without prior approval. Boudoir is not pinup photography, and props can be a distraction from our focus (YOU!)

  • Heavily worn, tattered, soiled, or scuffed items.

  • Items that do not fit (too big, too small).

  • Sex toys (really...do I need to say this?!).

Hair
If you need to get your roots or color touched up, make sure you plan for adequate time before your session in case of anything going wrong and needing to be fixed. Hair color is a chemical and accidents happen. We want you to have enough time before your shoot to get accidents corrected so you don't have to pay a rescheduling fee. We don't advise trying a new haircut, bangs, or color prior to your session.

Explore Your Ideal Boudoir Attire
Let your imagination run wild as you start envisioning your perfect boudoir outfits. Raid your own wardrobe for those beloved pieces and seek inspiration from magazines and admired brands.

A Shopping Adventure Awaits
Why not embark on a shopping journey with a close friend? Invite a girlfriend to accompany you and help you discover pieces that not only accentuate your appearance but also make you feel fantastic. Embrace the opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, for you may discover a newfound love for a unique fashion item! Or if shopping from the comfort of your own home is your jam (like me) I've created a curated list of my absolute favorites on Amazon, check them out below.

As well as a few of our favorite stores:

Preparing for Your Boudoir Experience

3-5 Days Before Your Session

Hair Removal
(If desired) Natural is totally fine with us, shaving or waxing is also perfectly acceptable. However, trying something new can sometimes cause a reaction like ingrown hairs or red rash bumps. Make sure you are experimenting well before your session if you're trying something new so you can show up and not worry about your nether-regions.

Skip Spray Tans or Tanning Lotions
Refrain from using spray tans or tanning lotions. These products, despite their natural appearance, can result in an undesirable orange hue that cannot be corrected in post-processing.

Nails
Natural nails are perfectly fine for your photoshoot, as long as they are well maintained and clean. If you'd like to get a mani/pedi or do it yourself, we advise for soft, neutral, or gem tones colors. Trendy shapes and bedazzles are fun, just make sure it's something you'll still love in 10-20 years after the style passes. Pictures are forever!

Hydration is Key
Drink lots of water to keep your skin healthy, plump, and clear. Exfoliate frequently, especially 2-3 days before your shoot (NOT the night before!). Avoid trying any new skincare products or changing your routine right before your session. Hydration and moisturization are the most important steps in healthy skin! Please avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Do not worry about looking "pasty" or "ashy" in your photos, I would rather add a subtle warm glow than have you show up with a sunburn or a spray tan.

Lingerie Preparation

Remove all pricing and sizing tags from your lingerie, including any permanent tags.

Final Wardrobe Choices
Make your final selections for 2-3 outfits that you'll be wearing during the session. If you need help - bring them all we'll help narrow them down
