Charlotte Fine Art Destination Family Photographer (Beach Session)

6 years ago,  my husband Brian gave me the gift of a camera for Christmas as my ‘life list’ included:  ‘get back into photography and to photograph something I am proud enough of to hang on wall.’  (its pretty amazing how ‘manifesting’ works, isn’t it? ;-))
My first subjects were the children of family and friends.  Within a year, photographing children became something I enjoyed and eventually began to charge for.
I fell in love with the ‘art’ in the everyday, with the ‘realness’ of children.  However, as journalism major..I was being pulled to the ‘story telling’ aspect of the world of weddings.  ( And candidly–I was finding in the South,  parents are sometimes more interested in matching smocked outfits/everyone staring at the camera and began to feel less like I was capturing little personalities in an artful way and more like a traditional portrait studio.)
…so I let family photography have its sun set. (with the exception of photographing for a few previous brides and loyal clients who allowed me to photograph in my style.)
However, recently I have been feeling a tug on my camera strap back towards portrait work, including fine art/editorially-inspired portraits of children. (Weddings, will of course remain my priority. However,  I will now be accepting a limited amount of portrait work–approximately 1-2 session per month.)   They will be sessions to document ‘life’s adventures: for the glamorous, fearless and fiery’.. whether they be of the full-grown variety…or little life-owning, badassess in training:-)  (Is it appropriate to cuss and mention photographing children in the same sentence?)
How to know if a session if right for you/your family?
– You see a photographer as an artist and you wish to collaborate  on a session location, attire and ‘concept’ that is special and unique to you.  (which does not include Freedom Park nor khakis and white tops for all:-)  -And wish to give your photographer (that’s me!) the freedom to capture you as I see you.   In all your ‘realness.’  (no pinterest boards please..we will photograph your own pin-worthy images!)
– You wish to actually hang a physical piece of art on your walls or create a ‘legacy album’ of images and display your life as art..because it is.
**Bonus points if in a beautiful destination you love like the NC beach session below with one of my favorite families. –A family I have photographed since the week the second little hit the scene. (and big sis tried to fee smarties to at a few days old:-)    Whom Ive watched grow from babies into gorgeous,  little ladies and are always one of my favorite things I have the honor to photograph each year.  (And though all of the previous years have been beautiful…there is just something about this year’s session I am so incredibly proud of and in love with.)
