Hurricane Iselle Aftermath in Pahoa and Kalapana and a trip to Rainbow Falls in Hilo, Hawaii

Hard to believe that almost two months ago, this was the main road right in front of my brothers property in Pāhoa, Hi. It was amazing to see the community come together and help one another after Hurricane Iselle. There were trees down everywhere blocking residents in, including us. We were feeling cabin fever set in… and thinking we weren’t going to be able to get out for days. We had had about enough of sitting and waiting so we started out hiking to see if we could get help but as we got closer to the road we slowly started hearing chainsaws making their way closer to us. Finally they reached us and were even kind enough to clear our driveway so we could get out. It was absolutely amazing to see how strong the community is here and how giving everyone is. As scary and destructive as the hurricane was… I actually thought created some breathtaking scenery… like the first few below. I love how beautiful greenery covering the road was. Hope you enjoy. Aloha! -Elly
